“Don’t be afraid of failure, at least you will know what doesn’t work.”
Meet Raven app founder and GirlCrew Dublin member Trudy Hayes
These days, it is possible to get most things sorted at the touch of a button; whether you need to grab a cab or find the best restaurants we are well used to finding the best apps to suit our needs. Luckily, for us there’s another app on the market that makes booking hair and make-up appointments just as easy. Raven app, is the brainchild of Irish businesswoman, and model, Trudy Hayes, and it’s certainly making a splash.
Trudy has a background in the industry, working with Reds on Dawson Street, Dublin, before moving on to become Creative Director with Dylan Bradshaw, a role she held for ten years. While there she travelled extensively to Milan, Paris, New York and London – “working on shows and shoots and collaborating with big product houses such as L’Oreal and P&G.” From there she moved to London for a year working on editorial with some amazing designers and magazines. Despite her already hectic schedule, Trudy “…felt a need for a new adventure and also saw a gap in the market for busy women that just couldn’t get to the salon.”
She knows firsthand how tough it is to find the time to fit in beauty appointments, and ‘on demand’ services are still hard to find. “So Raven was born. It’s an App/website where busy women can book hair and makeup appointments when and where they need them. We come to you in the comfort of your home office or hotel.” With a wide range of services available, Raven is able to cover all the needs of the customer, in a way that is convenient to them. “We cater for everything beauty and hair from ladies night out or pamper nights in, black tie, weddings, hen nights or corporate events – or just for you when you need it.” So, if you feel like taking some time to get pampered from the comfort of your own home, pop over to the app store to download Raven now.
1. What is the best thing about your role?
I really enjoy the diversity of what I do. I am never in the same place everyday so it’s never boring. It’s really exciting being parts of a new start up, some things go wrong but it’s amazing how quick your mind gets trying to come up with new ideas and solutions to women’s beauty issues on a day to day basis.
2. What did you find most challenging about it?
Creating awareness is very hard for an online business. gaining trust and of course coming up with capital. At the start I was doing everything myself too so that was hard.
3. What is your proudest work related achievement to date?
With Raven it was receiving some great press from people that tried the tested the service. The support I got for peers in the industry and of course seeing the app itself come to life. Before Raven, I have won lots of awards over the years and at the time this was exciting but I’m most proud of a beauty event both me and my sister put on for Temple Street and raised a lot of money for renal unit.
4. What would be your one tip to others who want to get involved in this industry?
Just enjoy and be passionate about what you do. At any chance you get up-skill and train and learn. I really feel we never stop learning.
5. What would be your motto in life, and in work?
Don’t be afraid of failure, at least you will know what doesn’t work.
