As someone who has dealt with their fair share of dodgy landlords and shady agents I know firsthand how tricky it is to find the right fit when it comes to renting. Thankfully, I’ve only had one major hiccup in a relatively long road of rentals but for members like Margaret Lyons, ensuring that this relationship is always rosey is the key to her job. As the Managaing Director and Owner of Profitable Lettings, Margaret “specialises in long and short term rentals and the placement of quality tenants; property room shares, which give extra income to client; assisting airbnb hosts; fit outs and turn keys solutions; and property project management….[as well as] locating rentals for corporate clients.”

Margaret started out in a well-established architect office where “developed a keen interest in property interiors, fit outs and turn key solutions.” From there she went back to her studies, focusing on interior design and Fine and Decorative Arts, to up-skill herself. Before moving into property development and landing a job “leading the operations management and project management functions of a leading residential international investor/developer.” If all this wasn’t enough she’s also a member and a director of Residential Landlord’s Association of Ireland, and has developed a female focused approach that, naturely, we loved – “I work closely with corporate females who purchase property but do not have the time to project manage the works or upgrades. 1. What is the best thing about your role? 

Landlord/Tenant balance – seeing both of them as important clients. Making sure repairs are dealt with promptly. Also when a landlord calls me to say I really like the tenants you placed in my property, that makes my work rewarding. Its not all about the money but about building long term relationships.

2.What did you find most challenging about it?

A request by a client to compete against other agent to let the same property! I had to inform the client it wouldn’t be possible as I like to place quality and allow for balance and professional service.

3. What is your proudest work related achievement to date?

Not allowing void periods to drag on, having an excellent outsource team to deliver results and receiving testimonials to match.

4. What would be your one tip to others who want to get involved in this industry?

Hard work and out of office hours, plus one needs to be flexible and adapt to different situations. You must love property problem solving as property comes with problems.

5. What would be your motto in life, and in work?

Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first. All about respect!
