“The biggest challenge is to begin”
Meet owner of Golden Tattoo Ireland, Galina Urban of GirlCrew Dublin.
Temporary tattoos have always had a lot of appeal, as they simply wash off there’s no fear that you might hate it down the line and there’s no pain either. Many of us will remember the free tattoos that used to come with chewing gum, greedily ripped from their packages and rubbed with such vigour that your arm would turn red and sore. We always seemed to forget that the monster would soon turn into a gummy black mass that would stick to your arm hair and it would be a slow process picking it off. Thankfully, temporary tattoos have come a long way since then, and no longer for the playground they have taken a fresh new place in our hearts as a symbol of summer freedom and festival vibes.
Looking to harness this excitement is GirlCrew Dublin member, Galina Urban. Her company Golden Tattoo is an e-commerce site that sells temporary body art worldwide. “I love Golden Tattoos. This is my real passion. I remember myself trying first tattoos, I was so excited. I was like: “I need Irish girls to try it too, they would love it!” So that’s how I started my business.” These temporary body tattoos are jewellery inspired so they look fantastic on the skin. With strong metallic colours and bold patterns they are sure to make a statement, and look great on any skin tone. The added bonus of being waterproof means they will work just as well by the poolside as they would listening to your favourite acts, and since they can last up to seven days you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy your new art work. With 20 styles to choose from you don’t have to worry about others copying your look as “you can mix them and create different look every time you wear them.”
For Galina this freedom to customize at will is ideal as it gives the wearer a chance to express their own individual style – “they’re easy to apply, they look great and you will get a lot of compliments. That’s why I love them.”
Galina is also offering all GirlCrew members a 13% discount using our unique promo code so check the newsletter for details.
1. What is the best thing about your role?
I love what I do and this is the best thing that can happen in your life. When you run your own business it keeps you busy all the time and makes you happy.
2. What did you find most challenging about it?
The biggest challenge is to begin everything. It is always hard to start something especially when not many people believe in it. And I’m so thankful to family for all the support and help I get.
3. What is your proudest work related achievement to date?
I am proud to do something very new and unusual. Our online shop is the first to sell temporary tattoos online in Ireland, and I am so happy to get positive reviews not only about our product’s quality but prices too. We have 20 designs at the moment but we’re working on getting more.
4. What would be your one tip to others who want to get involved in this industry?
If you have an idea just do it. Start from something small and it will grow into something big. You need to believe and trust yourself and your intuition. Don’t give up.
5. What would be your motto in life, and in work?
Work hard, don’t give up and LOVE.
