New York has so much to offer and something to suit everyone. A good way to make friends is to take up a new hobby. There are lots of hobby groups in NYC. One particular one is the Astoria Tango Club. ‘Every Sunday and Wednesday, the Astoria Tango Club opens its doors into the Buenos Aires Golden Age of Tango’. Come with some friends or alone, either way, you will be made feel so welcome. No experience is necessary either. Afterwards, hang out after class and head to Centro Español’s for some delicious tapas and Spanish wine.

Bring your Furry Friend

It can be so hard to make friends in New York City. Especially as an adult. A Lot more people are experiencing loneliness and have opened up their homes to canine friends. According to an article by NBC, dogs can lower stress and making us relax and able to cope with daily life. Dogs also need lots of exercises and luckily there are a lot of great dog parks in New York City. We wrote a post about making friends in Vancouver and bringing your pooch to a dog park, check it out here. The Chelsea Waterside Dog Park is just one where owners can go and mingle with other dog owners. Perfect excuse to chat to someone and ask about their pet and maybe even organise a dog date!

Volunteer

A great way to make friends in NYC is by going online and finding organisations that need volunteers. WIN is an organisation that has improved the lives of women and children for over 30 years. They provide safe housing, services and programmes to over 10,000 women and children who are homeless in New York. There are so many ways to volunteer, by helping with admin or special projects. Either way, you are helping and making new friends.

Laugh ‘Til you Cry

She Makes Me Laugh is a monthly all-female comedy show that showcases some of the funniest women in the New York comedy scene. Some amazing standups that have performed are Rachel Folgetto, Lani Harms and Corinne Fisher, co-host of the brilliant ‘Guys we F**ked’ podcast. Check out the Pit website for more details and when the next show is on.

So what do you think? Have we hit the nail on the head? Are you in New York? How did you make friends? Let us know in the comments below. Don’t forget to download the GirlCrew app. We’ve just landed in New York and are so excited! If you are looking for fun places to eat in New York, we got you covered.
