LA is so big, and so small, at the same time. I’ve only been there once and I was completely overwhelmed by it.
There are so many people that I can only imagine how tough it is to move out there and meet new people. But I’ve heard its better to treat LA like there are lots of towns in it, and then it’s much easier to navigate through. Here at GirlCrew HQ, we’ve done the hard work for you and put together a neat little list of how to make friends in LA.
It’s Just A Jump To The Left!
The Landmark Theatre shows the Rocky Horror Show every Saturday at midnight. Come dressed as your favourite character and dance to your heart’s content. And if Rocky isn’t your thing, they show lots of other classic movies like Blade Runner, The Room and have lots of current movies running too. And if you do go see Rocky, don’t forget your slice of toast!
Go Roller Skating
There are lots of roller skating rinks around LA but the Moonlight have lots of special themed event nights from Harry Potter to David Bowie. There are lots of classes you can join too to suit all levels of skater and the perfect chance to make new friends. The rink is famous for appearing in lots of movies, music videos and television shows.
Kayaking… in LA?!
Yes, you can kayak in LA! LA River Kayak Safari have guided tours down the river that include biking and kayaking. You get to see a different side of LA, the many types of wildlife and challenge yourself to something new. Getting out and enjoying an activity with new people is a great way to forge friendships. Perfect if you’re wondering how to make friends in LA.
Go To A Podcast Recording
Podcasts are becoming so popular now, nearly everyone has one. A cool thing to do is go see a live recording. There are lots of shows to choose from and one I recommend is Comedy Bang Bang which records in lots of theatres around Los Angeles. I saw Marc Maron in Dublin and I went by myself. A group of girls saw that I was on my own and asked me did I want to join them. Not only did I have a laugh but I made some new friends too.
Go On A Hike
It can be a bit daunting to go on a hike by yourself. Luckily, LA Trail Hikers have lots of different groups you can join depending on what level of hiker you are. This is a great way to get some exercise, make some new friends and take in the beautiful scenery of Los Angeles.
