Stopping off at our second Texan city, on the world tour already! You might still associate Dallas with the hit TV soap of the same name that was incredibly popular in the 80s. I even remember wanting to watch it, and I think I fancied myself a stetson like Bobby Ewing. But there’s much more to this city than a dramatic TC show and super cool hats. Dallas is in the north of the state and one of the three most populated cities, after Houston and San Antonio.
As GirlCrew initially started out as a way to find a few girls to head out dancing with, we thought we’d pick that out as the first activity for Dallas! Some spots to check out include
Sambuca Uptown – it’s got a supper club feel so its’ great for a bit to eat and chit chat before finding yourself shaking it on the dance floor to some live jazz or Latin ballroom music.
Red Light Lounge – this dance palace is dedicated solely to the pursuit of the dance, and you’ll hear everything from 80s hits to EDM (electronic dance music). Need to relax for a moment? Step up to the roof terrace. Nice.
Cowboys Red River – You are in Texas after all so you might as well get a little bit of country. Enjoy a horse rink dance floor complete with saddle disco ball, live music and even lessons you can get in on before the band starts, so you’re all ready to strut the night away.
Travel Through Time
A difficult moment in this city’s past is that it’s where the assassination of JFK took place. While I’m never hugely drawn to history books, James Franco’s recent TV show based on this event sucked me into the mysteries and reasons surrounding it. If you want to know more, you can actually visit the book depository that the shooter was in, ‘The Sixth Floor Museum’. Other visitors recommend scheduling about two hours for your visit to make the most of it.
Get Some Green
If you’re tired of the cityscape, take some time out at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Not only can you wander about and enjoy the lush grounds but they also host events like ‘Garden Gigs’, exhibitions, sell out concerts and programmes for you to learn more about botany too.
Making Friends in Dallas
GirlCrew was set up to make a few new friends for nights out on the tiles, but it quickly evolved into the place to go for some female pals for any kinds of social activities. It started in Dublin, Ireland but there’s a small group growing in Dallas along with over 40 other city groups across the globe too. The group is open to all women over about 25 and up and there’s always newbies joining the group so don’t worry about being new to it. We were all a newbie once! Hit the link below to join the Dallas crew 🙂
