5 Non-Profit Making the World a Better Place

How do you change the world? You can start simply by donating to charity or volunteering at a non-profit organisation. But where to start is overwhelming. Exergyn is an Irish company that converts hot water into energy. As hot water would otherwise be wasted, this saves large companies thousands off their energy bills. More importantly, it helps the environment which is the end goal for co-founders Alan and Kevin. 


Handsmith is an American non-profit that makes 3D printed bionic hands for those in need. People who need bionic hands are often not eligible for help through their insurance or simply cannot afford one. All that Handsmith asks, is that each applicant donates some money and the company will cover the rest.

The Dahlia Project

The Dahlia Project was started by Leyla Hussein in the UK. It offers therapy and support to victims of FGM. Here in the UK, over 20,000 girls under the age of 15 are at risk each year. The project aims to provide a safe space for women and girls.

Nothing But Nets

Nothing But Nets is a global campaign to raise awareness, funds, and voices to fight malaria. Long-lasting, insecticidal bed nets are a simple solution to protect families from malaria while they sleep. They create a physical barrier against malaria-carrying mosquitoes.


Braskem is a Brazilian company that takes the oil out of plastic. Plastic is traditionally made from petroleum but Braskem uses a natural resource instead, sugar cane. Its method for making polyethylene captures up to 2 tons of carbon dioxide for each ton of plastic produced. The company currently produces 200,000 metric tons of green plastic per year.
