Ask the Expert: Building a Personal Brand

What is personal branding? And why is it important? Is it just for businesses or can the average Jo have a one of their own?

We recently sat down with Éadaoin from Firechild Photography to find out more about building a brand is authentic, and one that works for you. Loving her ethos on not trying to be everything to everyone and instead being truthful, and showcasing your strengths.

What is personal branding?

Personal brand is not unlike your personality. It’s what people think of when they think of you or your business. It’s what makes people think of you in the first place. A slightly more personal representation of yourself in person and online.

Why is it important?

If you have the drive to be successful, especially in business, it’s definitely worth investing some quality time in. A personal brand can be great if you are searching for a job or want to give a good impression at work. It gives people a sense of who you are and what your work ethic is.

How do I start building my personal brand?

Be authentic and real. Listen to yourself, think about your vision for yourself. Where do you want to go, how are you going to get there. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What can you work on? What are my values? Asking these questions gives you clarity, which is an important factor. Clarity helps you realise your value and raises your standards. Developing clarity in your skillset can also lead to boosting confidence. Analyse what you do, and shift the focus to being client centric.

Remember, you are the only person who does what you do, and that is your strength!
