Here at GirlCrew HQ, we recently added the DC Metro Area to the GirlCrew app. This is really exciting and so cool to see people already starting to meet up and make new friends. When I asked what are some fun things to do in Baltimore, the Aquarium Baltimore kept coming up. There are so many things to do in the Aquarium alone we thought, why not make a blog post about it! Here are some fun things to do in the Aquarium Baltimore.
The National Aquarium Baltimore
The National Aquarium Baltimore was opened in 1981 and is a non-profit public aquarium. The aquarium is known as one of the world’s finest, featuring a living collection of more than 17,000 fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and marine mammals. Over 50 million people have visited the aquarium in Baltimore since its opened. The mission of the aquarium is to provide real solutions for protecting aquatic and marine life alongside human communities. The rescue center has rehabilitated hundreds of marine mammals and endangered sea turtles throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. It also supports the local Baltimore community by providing over 4000 jobs; they were recently named one of Baltimore’s Best Places to Work.
If you are looking to make the aquarium part of your vacation, a good place to stay is the Sleep Inn & Suites*. They have a tailored package to suit couples. The package includes accommodation for one night, a hot breakfast buffet, entry for two to the aquarium and late checkout. And what’s super handy about staying here is that the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the aquarium. The hotel also has three types of rooms that are accessible.
Parking the Car
If you are driving for the day, finding the best place to park can be a bit of a nightmare. Finding somewhere that is affordable is equally as hard. Luckily, the Harbor Park Garage is close to the aquarium Baltimore. It’s very affordable too for $20, or if you prepay online it’s only $15. There are lots of other garages nearby too, that offer help to staff members to best advise you.
Have a Sleepover

“I love coming to work every day knowing that I have the opportunity to change someone’s life. The work that we do here is so meaningful and rewarding and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do what we do and help share the wonders of the marine world and conservation with each other and the public.” – Gillian Reily, guest engagement specialist Each year, we ask our staff members to share what they’re thankful for—and every year they don’t disappoint! This is a great idea for families with children who are just starting school. The aquarium offers a dolphin sleepover. Things start with a presentation with the marine mammal team about how dolphins learn and play. Then after dinner, kids get a chance to explore the aquarium after hours. Face your fears and walk the shark catwalk, where the largest sharks swim silently just inches below. Then it’s time for bed where you literally sleep with the fishes. Wake up to a tasty continental breakfast and then help the team wake up the dolphins. Aquarium sleepovers have always proven popular, check out our blog post on Pier 39 San Francisco.
Animal Care and Rescue
The Animal Care and Rescue Center is dedicated to caring for off-exhibit and rescued animals. Visitors to the aquarium Baltimore can experience animal welfare work behind an enclosed gallery which allows them to witness the extensive work that takes place behind the scenes. Marine science and STEM opportunities can come to life for school groups through classroom activities and guided exploration. Visitors can help in many ways, one option is to donate money. Another is talking to the team and finding out what you can do to help.
The aquarium in Baltimore provides such a unique venue for your wedding day. With such gorgeous views of the Baltimore Inner Harbor and five levels of award-winning exhibits which would make for memorable wedding photos. The aquarium takes care of all the catering and for an extra cost, you can even have a private tour after the ceremony. If you are a sea lover, this would be the perfect spot for your day.
