In a world where everyone from our aunt to our best friends want to meddle in our relationships, do we really need another person stepping in to give us their two cents? Well when the person is a certified relationship coach, as well as a psychology and coaching lecturer, her two cents may come with a bit more bang for its buck. Meet GirlCrew Entrepreneurs member Annie Lavin. But how did she get into such an intriguing job?

“At the risk of sounding cliché, I have always been “arriving” here. When I tell friends I haven’t seen in some time that I practice as a relationship coach, they respond with a knowing laugh and ask “Haven’t you been doing that since 1999?””

What we seriously love about her work is that she transforms our relationships with others by working on our most important relationship – the one we have with ourselves.

Coaching can be offered face-to-face or via skype/phone and she says goals can be reached in 3-12 sessions . This depends on the client. Anyone who’s been to coaching or counselling before will likely know a good deal of commitment and effort has to come from our side too. Having qualified instruction on how to go about this however, is invaluable. Take it from someone who’s worked with a relationship coach herself. I still cherish what I learned, and the person I ended up with as a result of quite a significant mindset shift.

Read her quickfire Q&A and links to contact or follow her below.

1. What is the best thing about your role?

Supporting others to grow and transform into the best version of themselves.

2. What did you find most challenging about it?

Selling myself. Growing up in my family anyone who attempted to brag or boast of their achievements were laughed at and made fun of – in the way only a family can and still be loved. I associate this memory with the part of my work that requires me to advertise my service. Perhaps this is why it poses a challenge.

3. What is your proudest work related achievement to date?

Listening to myself and following my heart. I am now working in a way that I only dreamed was possible. Sometimes things occur in life that shake you to your very core and it is at times like these we are reminded of what is important, but we must be available to listen.

4. What would be your one tip to others who want to get involved in this industry?

Go for it! There is enough work to go around for everyone who feels as strongly as I do about human relationships.

5. What would be your motto in life, and in work?

Action is the antidote to anxieties or fears and experience helps improve your craft. In short, go after what it is that brings you joy and do more of it, what is the worst that can happen..?!

6. What’s your favourite thing about being in GirlCrew?

Creating connections with like minded people.

Loves learning things, trying things and learning some more. Also loves tea, space and will be forever heartbroken that she'll never see a dinosaur in real life.
